Robyn Paterson is a filmmaker based in Auckland, New Zealand.
Her debut feature documentary, Finding Mercy, about her search for a missing friend in her homeland of Zimbabwe, premiered at IDFA in 2012 and was awarded Best Cinematography and Best Emerging Filmmaker at DocEdge 2013. The film was also a finalist for Best Documentary and Best Documentary Director at the New Zealand Film Awards later that year, and lead to Robyn's appearance as a speaker at TEDx Auckland 2013. She is currently in production on a new feature documentary, In The Zone, about a Chicago man working to break cycles of inequality for minority teens. Alongside this she has newly completed her first narrative short film, Run Rabbit, which premiered in New Zealand's Best Shorts programme at NZIFF, followed by MIFF Accelerator, and is now screening at film festivals internationally.
Robyn has worked across a diverse range of genres and has a background in directing factual television. Robyn's work as a television director includes popular architectural series, Grand Designs - New Zealand, the international lifestyle show Rachel Hunter's Tour of Beauty and long-running health & disability series Attitude. As a writer, Robyn has published two non-fiction titles with Longacre Press & Random House, Tips from Your Nana and sequel Tips from Your Grandad.
Whatever her role, Robyn is passionate about projects which engage and challenge their audience, with an ongoing focus on cross-cultural understanding.
